On Saturday, an elderly farmer and his son were reportedly attacked with a sharp weapon while they were gathering wood in the Kuano forest of Gonda district. The assault resulted in the farmer's death, while his son was critically injured and has been admitted to a medical college for treatment.
According to a senior police official, Superintendent of Police (SP) Vineet Jaiswal, the victims were identified as Gangasagar Vishwakarma, aged 70, and his son Anokhi Lal, aged 45, both residents of Shivgarh in the Khargupur police jurisdiction. They had ventured into the forest, located near the Gonda-Balrampur district border, to collect wood.
During their outing, two unidentified assailants attacked them with a sharp weapon. Gangasagar succumbed to his injuries at the scene due to excessive blood loss, while his son sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the medical facility.
SP Jaiswal stated that upon receiving news of the incident, police, forensic experts, and Special Operations Group (SOG) teams arrived at the location to gather evidence. Following a complaint filed by Gangasagar's son, Alakhram, a murder case has been registered against unknown individuals.
To solve the case, five police teams have been formed, and efforts are underway to apprehend the attackers. Meanwhile, a large crowd of villagers gathered at the scene after learning about the murder, accusing the police of negligence and causing a disturbance. In response to the villagers' protests, the police had to transport the body for post-mortem through an alternate route.
